"Living in rural Vermont has its set of challenges. When I began studying with David Newsam, I was driving an hour and a half each way to Dartmouth College for our lessons. During summers, winter breaks, and any other off-times, I would drive three hours each way to study with him in Manchester, NH. It was completely worth every penny in gas and every minute spent in the car.

There were some times, however, when traveling such distances to my lesson was impossible. To overcome this, we turned toward technology. I was able to study with David through Skype when I could not make those long drives. This gave me access to a world-class teacher and player right in my own home. Through these lessons I was able to effectively work with David on anything, including preparing for auditions, technique, improvisation, theory, songwriting, and more. Even though there was over a hundred miles between us during these online lessons, it felt like we were in the same room.

Because of my studies with David, I have been able to perform with some of the best musicians in the world of gypsy jazz, including Bireli Lagrene, Stochelo Rosenburg, Olli Soikkeli, Gonzalo Bergara, and others. I have found that online lessons are an extremely valuable way to overcome logistical barriers and to study with an incredible musician like David Newsam."
